SAFE® River and Flood Rescue School

SAFE®, European Flood and River Rescue, is the first European school for river safety and rescue, dedicated to training in river-based aquatic environments.

The certified training program is based on the European Rescue 3 Europe standard.

Our service is available worldwide, and the programs can be watched in Italian, English, German, Spanish, Portuguese, French.

The SAFE® Method

Rescue techniques are first explained in theory, put into context, then practiced, and finally applied in complex scenarios. Each topic is analyzed, discussed, and demonstrated in great detail. We leave nothing to chance.

Who is it for?

  • Citizens and communities living in flood-prone areas
  • Enthusiasts and Professionals in river sports and activities (canoeists, rafting guides, canyoning enthusiasts, cavers, divers...)
  • Professionals working on river construction sites, performing measurements, surveys, building weirs, ...
  • Volunteers and Emergency Response Professionals (Firefighters, Military Personnel, Civil Protection, AIB, Red Cross, K-9 Units, Alpine Guides, and other emergency response agencies and groups...)

Certifications

We issue official Rescue 3 Europe certifications, which are recognized worldwide.
RESCUE 3™ Europe certifications comply with European regulations and are officially recognized in 22 countries as the standard for river rescue for the following groups:

  • Emergency response professionals (firefighters, civil defense, military personnel…),
  • River construction site workers (surveying, monitoring, sampling, hydrogeological instability, and, in general, anyone who must work along the riverbanks or in the riverbed)
  • Guides and instructors for river activities (rafting, kayaking, canyoning, etc.)
  • Work along the riverbanks in the event of a flood

The latest country to adopt this standard is Switzerland, with its fire departments and police forces. SAFE® is training new instructors who will train new first responders within the departments. The SAFE® – RESCUE 3™ certifications have been approved by OSHA, NFPA, and DEFRA.

Education / Advanced Specialization

Once you’ve acquired the basics through the SRT or WRT courses (preferably including the Advanced course, though it’s not required), you can specialize. SAFE® offers a wide range of highly specialized training programs organized by topic. Examples of specialized training programs include:

  • Rescue of vehicles from rivers and artificial canals
  • Rescue Operations in Flooded Areas Using Rafts as Work Platforms
  • Rescue Operations in Overflow Channels and Artificial Dams
  • Rescue Operations Using Fire Hoses from Bridges and in Artificial Canals

We offer certified courses in:

  • Emergency services such as the Fire Department, the Military, and Civil Protection
  • For river sports enthusiasts and outdoor professionals such as rafting guides, kayaking instructors, and canyoning guides,
  • Certified workplace safety for those who work near or directly in riverbeds—such as ARPA technicians and others who conduct biological and environmental measurements, hydroelectric power plant operators, workers at river construction sites, and film/TV crew members—
  • Advanced training courses in rescuing vehicles trapped in rivers, rescues at artificial barriers, flood rescues, rescues in low visibility and at night, river SAR searches, and rescues during expeditions in remote areas
